Reviews

The first pre-publication reviews have come in for The Queen’s Gamble (August):

"Starts strong and doesn't let up"

  - Publishers Weekly

"Action-packed adventure that expertly blends fiction with history ... a pulsating story of valor and greed, love and passion, and the tremendous cost of loyalty."

  - Publishers Weekly blog "Beyond Her Book"

British Publisher for the "Thornleigh" Novels

I’ve just signed with British publisher Constable & Robinson to publish my four “Thornleigh” novels in the UK. Founded in 1795 C&R is the oldest independent publishing house in the English-speaking world still trading under the name of its founder.

The company has a rich heritage, publishing the works of 19th century literary star Sir Walter Scott, Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897), Herman Melville’s Billy Budd (1924)and, for fifty years, the works of  George Bernard Shaw.

I’m honored to be in such illustrious company.

Signature Edition

My publisher is doing a special Signature Edition of THE QUEEN'S GAMBLE (August 2011) - 5,000 books with a front page bearing my signature. Here I am signing some of the 2,500 pages that will be cut in half and then bound into the Signature Edition. After signing so many times, my signature has taken on a definite new flourish!

The Acorn and the Pine Cone

People who enjoy my books are not only intelligent – that’s obvious, right? – but also kind. I’ve received such thoughtful notes and emails from many of you, and I cherish them. One especially. Here’s the story.
Some years ago I was in England researching The Queen’s Lady and spent a day exploring Hever Castle in Kent. This was the home of the Boleyn family, and Henry VIII came here to court Anne. That tempestuous affair, as we know, changed the course of England’s history.  As I strolled the grounds in a happy haze of imagination, I picked up an acorn. I squirreled it away in my pocket and ... to read on click here.

2010 Contest Winner:

The winner of the "Name Carlos's Horse" contest is Joy Isley of Mesa, Arizona, for her suggestion "Noche" ("Night" in Spanish). Runners-up are Rhoda Turner of New Jersey, Bill Zaget of Ontario, Jenny Smith of Nevada, and Erin Thomas of Ontario. All won copies of THE QUEEN'S CAPTIVE, and I'll use the winning name for Carlos's horse in the next "Thornleigh" book, THE QUEEN'S GAMBLE. My thanks to everyone who entered -- there were scores of excellent name suggestions.
